Counsel is a theme built for businesses or professionals who want a corporate look for there site. The theme contains a lot of features, each of which will be discussed here in details. If you don’t get an answer about any feature of Counsel theme here then you can contact our support forums.

Counsel theme provides many options to configure homepage of your site. Here in this section, we will try to learn how to setup homepage using counsel theme.First of all understand that Counsel currently provides two different type of Homepage layouts
(Theme Options -> Basic Settings -> Homepage Template):
- Homepage Template
- Blog Template
The ‘Blog Template’ displays the content in a blog manner, whereas the ‘Homepage Template’ uses different content sections to build up the homepage. There is no need to go in details about the ‘Blog Template’ but ‘Homepage Template’ is explained in details below.
First of all understand that there are many content sections available in Counsel theme. These sections are used to provide a different feature on the homepage. These are as follows:
- Featured Section
- Icon Boxes
- Service Section
- Employee Section
- Portfolio Section
Now lets cover each of these sections in detail:
(Theme Options -> Featured Section) This is the one for the slideshow. Counsel theme, currently support 10 slides to included in the featured section. (No more than 10 slides are currently allowed, but in future versions this may change). Every slide can have multiple objects:
- slide image (required)
- slide title
- slide description
- slide button text
- slide button url
In the list above, only slide image is required and the rest are optional. These optional items are used to make the text that floats on the slide. If you omit these items then only the slide image will be visible and not anything else. In order to hide this section, check this box
Theme Options -> Featured Section -> Hide Featured Section

(Theme Options -> Icon Boxes) Here are three icon boxes which are displayed in three different columns. Each of these icon box can contain:
- icon box title (required)
- icon box content (required)
- icon box icon (required)
You must note that the 3 icon boxes are required, you cannot go below or above that. In order to hide this section, check this box
Theme Options -> Icon Boxes -> Hide Icon Boxes
(Theme Options -> Service Section) This section is almost like icon boxes with 3 differences – no icons, background color and 4 columns. Currently in order to change the background color of this section, you will need to use Custom CSS or use a different skin (you may also get a theme option in future version)
In order to hide this section, check this box
Theme Options -> Service Section -> Hide Service Section
(Theme Options -> Employee Section) Here you can display 4 employees of your organization with there social profiles. Details for every employee can consist of 3 parts:
- employee name
- employee title
- employee social icons (facebook, twitter, linkedin, google+, dribbble)
In order to hide this section, check this box
Theme Options -> Employee Section -> Hide Employee Section
(Theme Options -> Portfolio Section) This is a carousel section where are the slides are displayed in a portfolio manner. Please note that you can at maximum display 50 slides. In order to hide this section, check this box
Theme Options -> Portfolio -> Hide Portfolio Section
Contact Details is an amazing feature of Counsel theme which allows a user to display his/her contact details in a beautiful manner on various locations of the site. The currently supported location are:
- Business Card (top right corner)
- Contact Page Template
- Contact us (widget)
All the settings for contact details can be found in
Theme Option -> Contact Details. Lets understand these settings in detail.
- Business Card: You can use this setting to either enable or disable the business card or choose any style template (if applicable). Note – Business card is displayed in the top right corner of your site.
- Company Name: With the ‘Contact Details’ locations (defined above), this name is also displayed in the footer of your theme.
- Company Motto: Displayed only in the business card.
- Company Address (line 1)
- Company Address (line 2)
- Company Address (country)
- Telephone Number
- Fax Number
- Google Map (Type): Select the type of Map you want.
- Google Map (Location): Here is how to get your Google Map Location.
- Google Map (Zoom Level): Higher value means more zoom-in
After filling up all these details, they will reflect in the 3 locations described above i.e. Business Card, Contact us Widget and Contact Page template. Now lets understand how these 3 locations work.
The business card functionality is built into Counsel theme and you only need to fill the details for it as described above. If you don’t want business card then you can easily disable it by choosing ‘None’ here

Contact Page Template
The contact page template work simply like any other template. All you need to do is to select ‘Contact Page’ from the template section when publishing a new page.
The page will automatically fetch details from ‘Contact Details’ theme options and populate itself. But here you won’t find any contact form as shown in theme’s demo. For that, you will need to use Contact form 7 plugin.
Here is how to use Contact form 7 plugin with Counsel Theme:
1. Download and install Contact form 7 plugin.
2. After installation, create a new form using the plugin.
3. When the form is created, the plugin will provide you a shortcode for that form.
4. Copy and paste that shortcode in the page content area, and assign that page ‘Contact Page’ template.
Now you will see a form visible in your contact page.
Contact us Widget
A very simple to use option. Counsel theme adds a Contact Us widget to WordPress. Just go to
Appearance -> Widgets and add that widget to any sidebar (Footerbox sidebars preferred)
